The Drop-in Peer Support is free, confidential, and a non-judgmental environment available for any students to discuss their concerns with another peer. Peer Health volunteers are trained in listening, validating others, and in sharing student support resources available.

The USSU (University of Saskatchewan Student Union) Health plan offers 80% coverage (up to $750 per year) for off-campus psychologist visits. It also provides access to Empower Me, a confidential mental health and wellness service available 24/7, 365 days a year.

A Mental Health Support Group is for anyone struggling with their mental health and thinks they need support. You will meet, discuss and get to know others who have been dealing with mental health. The Mental Health Support Group is a safe space to open up and can provide different resources that may help you with your mental health. Email helpcentre@ussu.ca for information.

Services available:

  • Professional Counsellors, with a variety of training backgrounds (e.g., Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology and Social Work) are available to provide support and problem-solving assistance for emotional difficulties (e.g., anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, etc.), interpersonal problems (e.g., couple counselling, counselling to help graduate students work more effectively with their advisor), stressful life situations and career indecision.
  • Groups and Workshops. Groups and workshops are a great way to work through and take action on questions or challenges you have. We have many different groups and workshops available including groups for anxiety, depression, coping and relationships.
  • Career Inventories. The SCC offers the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) to help you with your career decision-making and planning. Students interested in either of these inventories should first consult Career Services staff for their career planning needs.

University of Waterloo

Waterloo Pharmacy offers a comprehensive listing of Student Support resources collated on a single webpage – Student support | School of Pharmacy (uwaterloo.ca). Updated November 2023. 

A few unique initiatives (not comprehensive) to highlight in the mental health student support space include:

  1. A dedicated pharmacy counsellor who offers on-site, virtual, and after-hours appointments.
  2. Pharmacy advisors who offer one-on-one appointments, drop-in sessions, and an open door policy for students in support of their academic and personal success.
  3. RxPRN – Pharmacy Peer Relief Network – is an online peer network for Waterloo Pharmacy students seeking support and they also offer in-person events each term such as Therapy Dog visits.
  4. Curricular mental health support – one example is the Check-In activity – a forum for pharmacy students to learn about healthcare provider burnout and practice a facilitated Check-In with a School of Pharmacy faculty or staff member. Offered annually for third-year pharmacy students.
University of Toronto

The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, has an embedded counsellor specific to pharmacy students. The counsellor is located inside the Pharmacy Building (PB) on 144 College Street.

At UdeM, there is the CSCP (“Centre de santé et de consultation psychologique”, or Health and Psychological Counseling Center). Its goal is to maintain and provide physical and psychological health for all UdeM staff and students. Professionals from the psychology, nutrition, physiotherapy, nursing, and medicine departments can be consulted. The CSCP’s secretariat office is located at 2101 Boulevard Edouard-Montpetit, within the UdeM campus, and can be contacted from the following number : 1-514 343-6452.

Université Laval

At UL there’s a committee for the whole university for suicide prevention. Across all campus there are “Sentinelles” that are trained to help students struggling with their mental health.

Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University has a Student Health and Wellness Centre, which contains access to social work services, a psychiatrist, counsellors and registered psychologists. In order to make an appointment with a counsellor for mental health purposes, the student must attend a walk-in counselling session first, which occurs at particular times of the weekdays and wait times vary. The centre also holds various events such as, managing anxiety workshops, eating-disorder support and self-care skills. Contact information for this centre is as followed:

The Dalhousie College of Pharmacy has a Director of Student Affairs who is someone the students can go to with regards to experiencing problems with their mental health and their inability to focus or perform optimally in their academics. This faculty member can direct students to finding counselling services and contact their professors to accommodate these students, amongst other methods of support.

Memorial University of Newfoundland

At Memorial there is a Student Health Wellness and Counselling Centre for both physical and mental health. Services included for mental health are counselling, as well as less hands-on services that can be set-up for students, such as online therapy services.

There are also group therapy sessions, psychotherapy, consultations, case management, and referral services offered by the Wellness Centre. For assistance outside of regular clinic hours, MUN also informs students of keep.meSAFE, a free, confidential 24/7 counseling service there for whatever students need. Updated November 2023.
