What is PDW?
Professional Development Week (PDW) is an annual conference hosted by a different Canadian pharmacy school each year. This four-day conference brings pharmacy students together from across the country to network, apply their practical skills and expand their knowledge on various health care topics. Attending PDW is most definitely a memorable experience for students get to learn outside of the classroom, establish professional relationships with other future pharmacists and become enriched by the culture of the host city!
PDW is also an opportunity to meet CAPSI’s National General Council members in person, participate and run in the elections for executive council positions, compete in professional development competitions and participate in the “Pharmafacts” bowl, and meet inspirational pharmacists who are leaders in their field.
The University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has the honour of hosting the 30th annual Professional Development Week (PDW) held on January 10-13th, 2018! We welcome you to Edmonton, Alberta to stay with us at the luxurious 4-star Westin hotel- with conference activities happening just steps away at the world-class Shaw Conference Center. The conference will overlook the beautiful river valley, providing a stunning backdrop to PDW 2018.
The theme chosen for this conference is “Fueling Our Future.” This idea showcases the potential that all pharmacy and pharmaceutical professionals have in shaping the future of the pharmacy industry in Alberta as well as across Canada. Innovation in healthcare, pharmacy practice and research will be highlighted among the many speakers and sessions coming to PDW 2018. Furthermore, the Health Fair will showcase a range of diverse professionals and non-profit groups to discuss their latest ideas and developments. Highlighting our list of phenomenal speakers, we have Dr. Samantha Nutt (Founder/Director of War Child Canada) and Ben Nemtin (Actor/Producer on MTV’s The Buried Life).
Our opening gala will take you away from winter and transport you to a Hawaiian party, as we host a tropical soiree and acknowledge CAPSI’s 50th birthday! Then enjoy a western carnival-themed night as we see who wins the battle to be Canada’s Next Top Pharmacist. To end off the conference, dress your best and be ready to be amazed by a night inspired by the magnificent northern lights.
Pharmacy students across Canada are invited to attend PDW 2018 to develop and share ideas to shape the future of their pharmacy careers. We look forward to seeing everyone in January 2018!
